Senior Mix 20 kg - muesli feed for horses and ponies

Black Horse

Black Horse Senior Mix is a muesli for senior, normal weight and healthy horses and ponies.

The composition of the feed takes into account the needs of aging horses.

Package size 20 kg, pallet size 25 bags.

Black Horse Senior Mix contains, among other things, steamed oats and barley, corn, flaxseed pomace, broad beans, apple and carrot. The cooked ingredients ensure the digestibility of SENIOR Mix, while the apple and carrot add flavour.

Amino acids (especially lysine), vitamins and minerals have been added to meet the needs of older horses. The muesli contains postbiotics, which support optimal intestinal function and a healthy microbiota by stimulating the growth and activity of beneficial microbes.

A healthy gut strengthens the immune system and helps the horse cope better with stress on the gut. In addition, postbiotics support joint health and promote cartilage regeneration.

Instructions for use

The amount to be used is affected by the use of other feeds, the size of the horse and the workload. Roughage should be analyzed and based on this, the feeding is supplemented with other feed preparations.

When planning the feeding of an aging horse, the condition of the horse's teeth should also be taken into account, and the teeth should be checked frequently enough. The feed is also suitable for use in convalescent horses with limited mobility.

Dosing recommendation according to the weight of the horse or pony

Weight of the animalDosage
200-400 kg 0,5-1,5 kg/day (0,9-2,7 L)
400-600 kg 1,5-3 kg/day (2,7-5,5 L)
600 kg 3 kg/day (5,5 L)

Weight per liter approx. 550 g.

Black Horse Senior Mix should be swelled in water before serving. The daily ration should be divided into several feedings.

For an older horse, it is advisable to choose hay that is as leafy as possible. Chewing may become difficult and Black Horse Senior Mix offered in a swollen state is a good alternative to concentrate. It is also possible to offer Black Horse Greenmix, especially if eating roughage is difficult (spitting out partially chewed hay, weight loss, hay is not consumed normally).
A horse's ability to maintain body temperature decreases with age, so more energy is spent on heat production. This is a good thing to take into account if the horse spends a lot of time outdoors in cool weather (winding, increased feeding in the winter). BH Vegetable Oil/Linseed Oil or BH Energy Oil are well suited as a source of additional energy.
You should also ensure that the horse has access to clean drinking water, as water that is too cold may reduce water consumption and may feel unpleasant on the teeth.
A lick stone should be kept within reach of the horse.

When is a horse a senior?

Signs of aging begin to appear After 15 years of age, some earlier than others. Movement becomes stiffer, the coat color may fade, muscle mass becomes more difficult to maintain, the condition of the teeth deteriorates and chewing may become more difficult. In addition to external signs, nutrients are no longer absorbed as well as when younger. Starting to feed Black Horse Senior Mix even before visible signs of aging give the horse the opportunity to remain vigorous and active for a long time.
