- Oats are an excellent grain for feeding horses. They are higher in fat than other grains, which makes them a tasty source of energy. In addition, the starch in oats is finer than that of other grains, so it is more digestible than other grains. The amino acid composition of oats is also excellent for horses.
- Black oats, on the other hand, contain a lot of fiber.
- Barley and corn are steam-cooked to improve the digestibility of the starch. The energy values of barley and corn are almost as high as those of hulled oats. Barley and corn provide slower-digesting starch for long-lasting performance.
- Muesli feed also contains mannan oligosaccharide (MOS) from the yeast saccharomyces cerevisiae.
- Beetroot has been added to the Sport Mix complementary feed (May 2025). Natural beetroot is considered a performance and recovery enhancer.
Beetroot is rich in antioxidants, such as betalains (especially betanin and vulgaxanthin), polyphenols, vitamin C, phenolic acids and flavonoids. Beetroot antioxidants can support blood circulation, reduce inflammation and strengthen liver health. They also help with muscle recovery and cell protection, which is especially beneficial for racehorses.
Instructions for use:
BLACK HORSE SPORT mix is used as a supplement to normal roughage (hay). The feed can be offered as is, or it can be moistened. The amount of use is affected by the use of other feeds, the size of the horse and the workload. However, it is advisable to keep the lick within reach of the horse and to ensure that sports horses are given electrolyte supplements during hard training/competitions and in hot weather.
