It provides them with the magnesium they need and helps with the production of serotonin, a stress-relieving hormone. Tryptophan is a crucial amino acid that is required for the production of proteins. In addition, it is also used to create serotonin, which serves as a tissue hormone and neurotransmitter. In the brain, serotonin affects e.g. the animal’s mood and alertness. B vitamins help maintain the functionality of the nervous system, and they are vital for the brain as well, as they are needed in the production of e.g. serotonin. Magnesium is an especially important mineral for the nervous system, heart and muscles, and it also serves as a building block for bones and teeth. Magnesium participates in numerous enzyme production processes in the body, helps regulate cell metabolism, and also soothes the nervous system. Magnesium deficiency can result in muscle and nervous control dysfunctions (muscle cramps/tremors, nervous/ overreacting behaviour).
